Most visitors to Madeira arrive at Madeira Airport, but many arrive by cruise ship to the harbour at Funchal, bring all nationalities but especially British, Italian, and American tourist. Often the cruise ships stop for just a few hours, which means to little time to get out and about and explore the island, but it's a fact that many of the cruise ship arrivals book their next and subsequent holidays on Madeira, this time staying a week or two, often more, with some going over to the island of Porto Santo. | The Art of Weather Forecasting on Madeira The climate on Madeira is truly wonderful for its inhabitants, and for most of the island also fairly predictable, and to link to a weather website here is a calculated gamble in not putting people off. This link will take you to a very comprehensive weather forecast page that will give you current and forecast weather for several days ahead. However, the weather systems shown are atlantic and high level weather systems, and it is highly likely that you will find something completely different for the location you are interested in or visiting. As a rule the south and west coastal regions of the island are the driest, warmest and sunniest areas most of the time. Places like Ponta do Sol and Ribeira Brava are warm, dry and sunny practically all year, with an occasional but rare cloudy or rainy day. If you go higher, the weather can change dramatically in temperature and precipitation, and the same rule applies the further north you travel. That said, the weather for the whole island and also Porto Santo is never too hot or cold, and very consistent in temperature day to day, matched in europe only by the Canary Islands, which can get unbearably hot in summer. If you look at this webpage, take the information with a large pinch of salt, although the temperature guides given for Funchal are pretty much accurate. |
