Porto Santo has it's own carnival parades for the people, schools and children of the towns and districts of the island, held in the capital, Vila Baleira. The carnival
pictured here took place on 5th February 2008. The 'Trapalhão' parade is the last event in the carnival schedule, and is an informal affair with a free format parade. The
carnival parade ('carnaval' in Portuguese) includes many  youngsters and adults. The parade winds it's way around the streets of Vila Baleira, and takes about an hour. It
was followed by a live concert with dancers. This year it seemed that there were as many vehicles, especially motorbikes, as people. Streamers and confetti all form
part of the parade, and the town needs a good clean up afterwards. It's wonderful to see everybody participating in the parade, and it is such a colourful event that it is
doubtful that the photos here can do the event justice.
